Your Questions Answered
Have questions about the Hope Center and our services? Below are answers to some of the most common inquiries about how we serve the community, how you can get involved, and how to receive assistance. If you need more information, feel free to contact us!
What are your hours of operation?
We are open every Wednesday at 9 am and every 3rd Saturday at 9am. You may call to set up an appointment outside of these hours.
What denomination is the Hope Center?
We are a non-denominational outreach that is located in the heart of Southern Illinois, led by a group of volunteers wanting to help people physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
When was the Hope Center founded?
The Hope Center was founded in 2004 by Chaplain Steve and Mary Beth Smith with the desire to see individuals, families, and communities changed by the power of the gospel.
How can I volunteer?
You can volunteer by calling Steve Smith at 618.445.2065 or emailing [email protected].
Where can I donate?
You may make monetary donations by following the Donate button on this page. Drop all physical items off into our donation bin at 23 West Cherry Street, Albion, IL.
Are you affiliated with any religious or political group?
Yes, many churches and The Hope Center welcomes politicians of all parties to meet people in person at the Hope Center. We are pro-life, pro-family, pro-work. We believe Jesus is true way to salvation.
What kind of assistance do you provide?
Our services depend on the needs of the community and available resources. Common programs include food and clothing distribution, books, shoes and boots, help with attaining employment, and toys at Christmas or when there is a fire or other situations. We like to say we help out Diapers to Depends.
Do you offer faith-based services or programs?
The Hope Center has a Message of Hope on the 3rd Saturday of every month when we pass food and other items. The Hope Center has a devotion every Wednesday at around 10 am for volunteers and others. We encourage Dave Ramsey for financial education.
How Can I Get Involved?
There are many ways to help! You can volunteer, donate money or supplies, spread the word, or partner with us to expand our impact. Contact us to find out how your skills and resources can make a difference.
Who can receive help from this outreach?
Anyone in need is welcome. We do not discriminate based on background, beliefs, or circumstances. Our goal is to offer help without judgment. In 2009 The Hope Center decided to limit the amount of times people can come for assistance to 20 times. We want to be a helping hand not an enabler. We do make exceptions for emergencies.
Where does your funding come from?
We rely on donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and fundraising events. No grants or Government assistance.
How are you different from a church?
Our values may align with faith-based organizations, but The Hope Center is not a church. Our focus is on community service and support for anyone in need whether they attend church or not. We use the Bible as our primary direction to assist people. We try to be available as much as possible and meet people where they are.
What is the purpose of The Hope Center?
We exist to serve and support the community by meeting practical needs, offering resources, and fostering positive change. Our goal is to help people in tangible ways, whether through food assistance, mentorship programs, financial education, or other services. (VA, Toys for Tots, Jobs, Housing, Home Visits)
